Why I Leave My Cleanser On While I Make Coffee
One of the questions I hear most often is, "How long should I cleanse my skin?"
My answer usually surprises people.
Most mornings, I don't rinse my cleanser off right away.
Instead, I apply Effortless Enzyme to dry skin as soon as I wake up.
Then I make coffee.
I take my dog outside.
I start my morning.
Only after that do I come back, rinse my face, and continue the rest of my skincare routine.
People often look at me like I've broken some skincare rule.
The truth is, this simple habit has become one of the most important parts of my morning.
It Starts with My Skin Barrier
When I formulated Effortless Enzyme, I wasn't trying to create a cleanser that left skin feeling squeaky clean.
In fact, that's exactly what I wanted to avoid.
Healthy skin has a protective barrier that helps keep moisture where it belongs. If every cleanse leaves your skin feeling tight, dry, or uncomfortable, your routine is working against the very thing you're trying to achieve—healthy, hydrated skin.
For me, cleansing isn't just about removing yesterday's skincare, makeup, or sunscreen.
It's the first step in preparing my skin for hydration.
Then I Give My Skin a Drink
After I rinse, I don't reach for a facial mist. I head straight to the sink.
I repeatedly splash my face with cool water, gently pressing it into my skin between splashes. I leave my skin completely damp.
Then I immediately apply Luminous Liquid.
Water is what hydrates your skin.
Luminous Liquid helps my skin hold onto that hydration.
That's why these two steps always happen together.
My Morning Routine
My routine is remarkably simple.
- Apply Effortless Enzyme to dry skin.
- Make coffee. Walk the dog. Let the morning begin.
- Rinse thoroughly.
- Flood my skin with cool water.
- Apply Luminous Liquid while my skin is still damp.
I've refined this routine over more than twenty years of formulating skincare for sensitive skin.
It's not about adding more products.
It's about helping my skin stay comfortable, resilient, and hydrated.
Sometimes the most effective routines are also the simplest.
